- How many insurable hours do I need to qualify for EI?
- You generally need between 420 and 700 insurable hours in your qualifying period, depending on the unemployment rate in your region — fewer hours are required where unemployment is higher.
- How much does EI pay per week?
- Regular EI benefits are 55% of your average weekly insurable earnings, up to a yearly maximum set by the federal government. Numeo applies the 2026 maximum.
- How many weeks of EI can I receive?
- Regular benefits last between 14 and 45 weeks, based on your number of insurable hours and your regional unemployment rate.
- What is the EI clawback?
- If your net income for the year exceeds about $86,125 (2026) and you received regular benefits, you repay 30% of the lesser of your benefits or the amount over the threshold when you file your taxes.
